Lachung

One of the top places to visit in North Sikkim, Lachung is a small and peaceful village. Located on the banks of Lachung river, this tiny, quaint village offers a gorgeous mountain view to the visitors. Lachung Monastery

Built up in 1880, Lachung Monastery is an ancient Buddhist monastery. Made with brilliant architecture, this monastery is surrounded with magnificent hills, beautiful streams, fantastic waterfalls and beautiful orchards. If you are in Lachung, the Lachung monastery is a must visit Lachung tourist places. It also forms the base for the Green lake trek. Also known as Samten Cheoling Monastery, the Lachung monastery is a small and colorful monastery. It also has a two-storey prayer hall. It is a renowned monastery in Lachung and it draws a large number of tourists every year. The monastery is surrounded by lovely apple orchards and it provides a beautiful view of the entire Lachung valley. There is also their famous mask dance that is performed in the monastery every year.



Zemu Glacier

Visit the Zemu glacier to be moved by the thrilling beauty of the place. It is a glacier like no other. It serves as the source of water to river Teesta. It also acts as a natural reservoir. The road that leads to the Zemu glacier is magical. You can see gushing waterfalls, twinkling rivulets, and pristine panoramas in the backdrop. The Zemu glacier has received little attention earlier, but due to the recent retreat by many people, the Zemu glacier is facing environmental concerns. The Zemu glacier lies at the foot of the third highest peat in the world, the Kanchenjunga. The trek that leads up to Zemu glacier is rated moderate to difficult, so you should be well prepared before going there.



Bhim Nala Falls

Located at a distance of 13 km from Lachung, witness the enchanting beauty of this spectacular waterfall that is among the top tourist places in north Sikkim. This waterfall is among the tallest waterfall in Sikkim. The Bhim Nala falls is also called Amitabh Bachchan falls due to its height. This falls seems like a three phase waterfall due to it’s tall height. There is a small cafe and a view point opposite the waterfall which offers a spectacular view of the waterfall. Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary

Located in north Sikkim, the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary promises an picturesque view of the rhododendrons. Surrounded by the Himalayas, there are around 40 varieties of rhododendrons present there that attracts many birds and provides a visual treat. Other than rhododendrons, several other species of plants and trees can also be found there. The rhododendrons bloom fully during the spring season therefore the best time to visit Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is from April to July. This place is also a popular trekking destination in Sikkim.
